Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - VCU has announced it is stopping production of its VCU branded beer with Hardywood Brewery. The partnership just got underway this week. However, faculty, and the family of Adam Oakes, raised concerns.

Chemistry Professor Dr. Everett Carpenter told WRVA earlier this week that the decision to have a branded beer was in poor taste, following Oakes' death. Oakes died in February 2021 of alcohol poisoning during a fraternity event. Carpenter also says faculty and students voted against the changing the policy to allow the branding.

The university had said the money raised from it would go to scholarships. VCU says they stopped the branding because they value their community and their concerns.
